Callous Tranquility
Under the tranquility, perhaps, a dead silence, everyone seemed phlegmatic. It was a callous tranquility: a sudden cease from cries and screams. The word "certified" shocked us, outside of the emergency room. I am agitated, in that the desultory scenes of the atrocious disaster invaded my mind – the fire, the copious smoke, the screams! I could still hear the flimsy SOS from mom! She struggled, while I, coward enough, just stood there and watched. I heard the fire, I heard the screams; I heard the fire; I heard no more screams.
