Struggles within the Contact Zone
In her essay “Art of the Contact Zone,” Mary Louise Pratt (1990) writes about what she calls the contact zones. Contact zone is the term Pratt uses to “refer to social spaces where cultures meet, clash, and grapple with each other. ... The contact zone is usually where a suppressed or subordinate culture may have a chance to influence another culture; usually the dominant culture. ...
