The stranger
The Stranger begs a controversial question of the validity of life. Camus challenges the idea of life purpose and justification of one’s actions. Through the use of the main character, Monsieur Meursault, Camus exploits the notion of absurdity, that not everything is explainable. Camus explores the suggestion that there is a master plan for this thing we call life. He utilizes conflict, characterization, as well the idea of existentialism by the employing of tone to impact the reader. Through such techniques Camus is able to convey his view of life and elaborate on the meaningless of life itself. An obvious conflict is introduced immediately in the first chapter. When Monsieur gets news of his mother’s death there is a clear lack of emotion. This however, is only a small glimpse of what is a severely detached individual.
