Building America
“Building America was not for the weak or the fainthearted … nor is rebuilding today. ... ” – Pete Wilson, Washington Times, Tuesday, August 29, 1995 Wilson’s statement of “Building America was not for the weak or the fainthearted…” is very true on account of that; America was built by the strongest of the strong. How could America be built by people without the strength, determination, and courage, to keep it lasting as long as it has? The term “American Dream was first used by James Truslow Adams in his book the Epic of America, which was written in 1931, states that, “ "The American Dream is” that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement… It is not a dream of motor cars and high wages merely, but a dream of social order in which each man and each woman shall be able to attain to the fullest stature of which they are innately capable, and be recognized by others for what they are, regardless of the fortuitous circumstances of birth or position. ... Moreover, in The Great Gatsby, corruption and greed is reoccurring theme in the story, it challenges the major assertion because from the lack of character in the characters of the book, they clearly show that America needs rebuilding. ... Since the traditional family crumbles, the tradition and conservative values for the strong structure of America falls apart because the families that are part of the American culture and the American way. They are the families that help keep America going in the right direction, or at least try to. ... They are destroying the lives of America by corrupting their lives so they are weak and America wasn’t built by the weak it was built by the strong fighters. ... America does not need to be rebuilt because of all the families that work so hard to preserve there believes. The only way to keep America strong and taken in the right direction is to learn, not just from families, but also learning from everyone around them.
