The battle of Stalingrad is known to be a major turning point in the second world war. Many people see it as the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany, the defeat by Russia at Stalingrad sending Hitler into a downward spiral which he could never get out of. Although the Nazis resisted the Allies for a further 3 years, their loss at Stalingrad was seen to make the eventual loss of the war inevitable. ... The battle of Stalingrad was just a piece of Hitlers overall plan to defeat Russia, Operation Barbarossa.
