Fashion from century to century

Fashion has changed from century to century during our recent history. In the 18th century fashion was very similar for men and women, but changed dramatically after The Great Masculine Renunciation. In the 19th century women’s fight to dress more comfortably was met with much distain and ridicule. However, fashion for men and women is once again very similar. By looking at the history of each century, you can see how clothing styles are affected by cultural issues in each time period. ... Both women’s and men’s clothing of the 18th century were very ornate, both being very frilly and lacy. Women of the 18th century were not yet ready to stand up for their rights, at least not publicly, and their dress reflected that truth. Women’s fashion was feminine, romantic, and made from the finest materials. ... It was not until the Great Masculine Renunciation that men’s clothing changed drastically from that of women. ...
