Space Odyssey 2001 The movie Space Odyssey 2001 is an interpretation of how people back in 1968 felt the year 2001 would be like. ... The bone thrown into the air becomes an orbiting space satellite in space and it is now the era of man. The toss of the bone into the air is metaphoric of man sending a satellite into space and they both symbolize the technological advances of both eras. The film shows man in space in a space ship traveling to the moon to do a study on a stone they have found. ... They go up to it and touch it and then the Sun, Earth, and Moon become lined up in orbit and sunlight strikes the stone producing a piercing sound and sending some sort of signal out into space towards Jupiter. ... He disconnects HAL as the ship enters Jupiter’s space and a recording comes on over the ship explaining the purpose of the trip. ... He sees another stone similar to the other two on its way around Jupiter in space and he gets into a pod and goes out to it.
