Dreams and Islam
Dreams are important religious phenomena in almost all of the worlds religious traditions. There is little mystery, then, about why scholars of religion are interested in studying dreams; we study dreams to gain valuable insights into the religious concerns of mankind. Dreams are significant in almost every religion but Islam is a religion giving utmost importance to dreams because of the significance it portrays in the Muslim religion and culture. Dreams have had great importance in people’s lives before and after Islam. Educated people and intellectuals might differ in the way they view dreams and judge their issue. ... Some psychiatrists have a negative attitude towards dreams, which is actually very close to that of the philosophers. They refer it to the mood of people and certain parts of their memory which become hyper during sleep, making dreams purely biological. On the other hand, Islam and its scholars have followed the prophetic path in dealing with dreams, and have judged dreams according to the Quran and the Sunnah (teachings of Prophet Mohammad). Dreams have acquired this high position in Islam because of some of the revelations of the Holy Quranic verses through dreams, the teachings and practices of Prophet Mohammad on dreams and the Islamic fact that dreams are able to help man if correctly interpreted.
