Japans Victorious Defeat

In Japan’s case, the death and destruction that came along with the humiliating defeat forced the Japanese people, for the first time, to question and change their values along with the motives behind those values. The objective of American Occupation was to impose “Democracy” on Japan, as a tactic to ensure against any future rise of Japans’ Imperialistic old ways again. ... The term “Unconditional Surrender” would almost certainly have a demeaning effect on a country that emphatically taught its subjects that world supremacy was not Japans choice but rather its divine right. If white men could intervene on Japans supremacy, what does that say about its divinity? ... Japan could have easily fell into the role of a third rate paper-plate exporting nation after experiencing defeat and foreign occupation (that could have easily invoked long-lasting impressions of inferiority), but they did not and through a obvious change of attitude towards life, government and especially war; they found a way to become dominant and prosperous without weapons.
