School Tracking
Virtually everyone who enters school eventually leaves to do work of some kind in their adult years. Some people might work in the home, others in a local mall right after high school, and some go on to professional schools and become professionals. ... It’s a statistic that one out of every four college students drop out before they graduate, and that a surprising thirty five percent drop out of High school. This doesn’t say that our schools should be easier, because college and high school is serious, however maybe it shows that college isn’t for everyone, and another option in the high schools needs to be put in place. One option is called “vocational tracking”. In high school cooperative education programs, students take vocational courses at a comprehensive high school in the morning, and then go to work in the afternoon. ... Schools that have tried this program have found it to be very successful, especially in lower income school systems.
