Drug Testing Dilemma
Drug testing has been a controversial issue for some time now. ... One rarely sees this drug abuse in high school athletes, therefore they should not be tested for drugs at this age. Drug tests can be very costly and schools should eliminate them to save money. Also, drug testing labels athletes incorrectly according to the result of the drug test. Most people feel insulted when asked to take a drug test because they would never engage in the use of illegal substances. Therefor, drug testing should be eliminated for any high school athlete.
There are various reasons that one would think that athletes would benefit from drug testing. Numerous people think that drug testing scares athletes from using drugs. ... This, however, seems to be a misconception because athletes that are using drugs at the time usually know how long the drug stays in ones system and thus, will know how long to stay off of that drug before being tested. Another reason drug testing appears to be beneficial is that it would level the playing field.
