The theme of evil is portrayed through the actions of the characters within the play. All evil actions in Hamlet are the results of a response to a prior evil action. The death of King Hamlet, followed by the appearance of the ghost and finally Claudiusˇ¦ inability to decide goodness for Denmark are all the result of evil breeding evil, which in the end leads to the destruction in many of the characters and the loss of their kingdom.
The first act of evil in the play began with Claudiusˇ¦ selfish ambition to take over the kingdom of Denmark. ... Claudius followed through with his evil plot to kill the king by pouring poison into his ear while the king was sleeping.
