In a society where men are encouraged to openly express themselves and to “be in touch with their feminine side,” the idea of women being more emotional than men can be seen as outdated and obsolete. ... In all fairness, our culture has unconsciously made it difficult for men to embrace their sensitivities and to express their feelings and emotions, through media perceptions and representations of what the ideal male is or is not. ... We must understand and realize that men and women have different ways of expressing their feelings and emotions, and that a certain method is not superior to the other; rather, we should acknowledge both forms of expression as validated responses. For example, if an argument between a couple results in the woman crying her eyes out, while the man remains tear-free, signifies that the woman is more “emotional” than the man, then this claim is biased, for while the man isn’t expressing his emotions through tears, it doesn’t mean that he is “unemotional” and detached from the situation at hand. ... Here, I stress again the idea that women are not more emotional than men, but that perhaps they are more physically expressive in showing their emotions.
