The life of Reconstruction was from 1865 to 1877. Restoration of the Union was Lincolns plan during this period. Black equality, which was fought by the Radicals, was also a concern in the south. Through evaluation of this era, I believe that there were both successes and failures. The failures where present because of the south’s view of what the blacks were, inferior. The Radical’s fight for equality gave hope to the ex-slaves, but the south battled in their own ways to oppress the blacks.
