1970’s: The FLQ Crisis
The Front de libération du Québec (FLQ) was a terrorist group in Quebec made up of French Canadian extremists who sought for Quebec’s independence. The FLQ was established in 1963 and ended in 1971. The FLQ had been responsible for many terrorist acts such as office building bombings and kidnappings. In October 1970 the FLQ kidnapped the British Consular Officer James Cross and Quebec’s Vice Premier and Minister of Labour and Immigration Pierre Laporte.
