The two stories I’m comparing are Examination and stolen Bacillus. Examination Day was written by Henry Slesar and H.G Wells wrote The Stolen Bacillus. ... G Wells, story The Stolen Bacillus is about a man who goes to a bacteriologist’s house and steals a test tube of what he thinks is the bacillus of cholera germ with intentions to poison the British water supply but in fact stole a blue die, which cures the cholera. Examination Day is very different in which a boy is killed for being over intelligent.
The impression we get of science in The Stolen Bacillus is that it is very modern but the scenario is not recent but in the past. ...
The science in Examination Day is a futuristic/ modern science time. ... Science is more unrealistic in the Examination Day but The Stolen Bacillus can be realistic.
Stolen Bacillus shows us that society is old and normal. The social class in Stolen Bacillus is very high for the bacteriologist and how his wife runs after him. ...
In Examination Day, society is equally rigid because things are still controlled by the government and there is know class distinction. ...
Both stories say something about our society by showing us that the set-up was or is real, but the stories do not coralline with anything we have in this present day, but quite the opposite, so we can say that stories remain stories and reality remains reality. ... Examination Day, you can tell as you were reading the story that it was building up to a dramatic moment but the child being killed for over exceeding the national limit or being too intelligent. ... The Stolen Bacillus also has a twist at the end of the short story, when the “Visitor” who turned out to be a Anarchist stole a test tube, we all thought that it was a disease but which turns out to be a testable cure for the actual disease and the cure turns out to be a blue dye. The twist in Examination Day was way more turning than the twist in The Stolen Bacillus because at the end of The Stolen Bacillus everything turns out O.K but at the end of Examination Day a 12 years of age child is killed for being “TOO SMART”.
At the end of The Stolen Bacillus the twist was supposed to be funny in the sense that the Anarchist drank a blue dye which in earlier tests showed that the dye turned the animals blue so what affect could it have on humans than the same.
