Motorcar Racing is not a sport
RACE CAR DRIVING IS NO SPORT During a recent Grand Prix it was noticed from the commentary that a car being minutes away from home (victory) broke it’s rear spring and staggered to the nearest pit-stop to learn that the driver had to throw in the towel. I made the following observations bringing me to conclude that race car driving was not a sport. The definition of sport has long been a topic of opinion and discussion, depending on how one classifies a sport. Games from football to chess are referred to as sport. For a game to be considered a sport it must display competition, physical skills and energy. One requirement for a game to be a sport is that it must contain competition where a winner and a loser is determined. ... A good example of competition being displayed is in the sport of tennis. ... A sport also requires physical skills. Not everything that requires physical movement is a sport.
