Working Kids Of America Have you ever noticed how there are more kids out running the streets rather than out looking for jobs? Kids now either get their money from their parents or other sources. Not very many years ago, kids used to work for their money and everything that they wanted. The kids used to work either for their parents or for their local community. Kids used to help their parents many of ways. ... Some parents owned their own business, so their kids would help them there. Other kids that didn’t do either one of those would work in little stores in town for some extra cash. The percent of kids working now compared to the kids working about thirty years ago is down. During the school year in the seventies, the percent of kids working was 30% . The percent of kids working now during the school year is 23%. The percent of kids working in the summer of the seventies was 43% compared to the percent of 30% of kids working now in the summer. Kids are getting lazier and greedier. “That the pressure to put your kids to work is unrelenting”(Smiley , 476), explains that she thinks that it is wrong to put your children to work until they are willing and ready to work.
