To begin, the Plains Indian tribes have wandered the vast plains of the United States for centuries. But the second half of the ninetieth century drastically changes the live of the Plains Indians who lost many of their traditions and customs due to the technological developments and government actions of that time. The restrictions imposed on them favored expansionist policies and encouraged growth in the plains of the Midwest. For many years, the Plains Indians have carried on the ways of their ancestors. One of these age old traditions is their respect and holiness of the land. They believed that it was a sacred because their ancestor were buried there and that is where they will go once they pass on. A strong supporter of this was Chief Joseph who urged Indians to keep their lands and not sell them to the white man until he lost the Battle of Little Big Horn and realized that the end has come near for them.
