The Cold War

The cold war was a state of political tension and military rivalry existing between the Soviet and American blocs of nations following World War II, stopping short of an actual full-scale war. The Cold War lasted from the rise of the Iron Curtain in 1946 to the collapse of the Soviet empire in 1991. “There are now two great nations in the world, which starting from different points, seem to be advancing toward the same goal: the Russians and the Anglo-Americans.... Each seems called by some secret design of Providence one day to hold in its hands the destinies of half the world ”. These two nations threatened the existence of the human specie by trying to outsmart one another to prove who is the best.

As World War II came to an end, the three-mega powers took it upon themselves to control Europe. These were England, U.S.S.R and U.S.A. Winston Churchill, Josef Stalin and Franklin Roosevelt led them respectively. In February, they met in the Lavidia Palace to determine how the war should be finished and to compromise on a treaty.
