In The Pearl by John Steinbeck there was a lot of greed. The greed caused a lot of problems for all the characters. All of the greed started when Kino found a pearl to help with his son Coyotito’s illness. When everyone heard about Kino’s great pearl they all wanted some of his fortune, but three certain acts of greediness stood out in different The town’s doctor was a very greedy man. He said that “ I, I alone in the world am supposed to work for nothing – and I am tired of it”(11). He was refusing to help Kino and his wife Juana with Coyotito because they had no money, after Kino found the pearl, the doctor was right at their brush hut providing his services. He lied to Kino and said “I was not in when you came this morning, but now at first chance, I have come to see the baby”(29). The doctor then gave Coyotito a capsule that he said would help the baby, but he would be back in an hour because the pill he gave Coyotito would make him sicker.
