United NationsThe United Nations is an organization that is comprised by independent countries who work for the world to encourage peace. There are 185 member countries in the United Nations today. The United Nations tries to keep peace throughout the world, develop friendly relations among other nations, and help improve living conditions and help nations in need of help. There is six languages spoken in the U.N. These languages are Chinese, French, Arabic, Russian, English, and Spanish. The United Nations is located along the East River in New York City. The United Nations is not part of the United States. It is an international territory. The United Nations were established on October 24, 1945 after World War 2. When the war was over, many nations opposed Germany, Italy, and Japan. They never wanted this to happen again. So they created the United Nations. The planners of the United Nations were Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill. After Franklin D. Roosevelt’s death, they decided to name it the United Nations in honor of Franklin Roosevelt. On April 1945, they worked out a plan for peace around the world. This plan was called the Charter of the United Nations. On June 1945, 50 nations sign the United Nations Charte
