A Tribute To The Hope Scholarship
*SMILE* *RELAX*
Scavenging under couch cushions for spare change, |bouncing two dollar checks, |buying bargain brand products, |the 99 cent value menu at Wendy's; |being college students, I'm sure most of you can relate with these situations.
Since the HOPE Program began in 1993, HOPE funds awarded more than 600,000 students attending Georgia's colleges, universities, and technical colleges more than 1.5 billion dollars.
Today I would like to pay tribute to The Hope Scholarship program for the few times I walked into the bookstore, at the beginning of the semester, and did not have to pay 120 dollars for books.

Most students take the Hope for granted, when they first receive it. I knew someone that did not even understand what the Hope was. |He called me up one afternoon and invited me to come over to his apartment to drink, then informed me that he had purchased a keg. I said "Wow! I will be over in a few minutes, but how did u find the money to get a keg?" and he replied, "I just got some check in the mail, I'm not sure what it was for."

When I first received the Hope coming out of High School I believed that it would be very easy to keep a 3.0 GPA. |Little did I know that keeping a 3.0 GPA was a lot harder than it sounds.
I understood enough not to spend my Hope money on beer, like my friend did, but I never understood how hard it would be keeping a 3.0 GPA.

I believe Joni Mitchell said it best "You don't know what you've got till it's gone", I had no idea what I had with the Hope until it was gone.
I swore, when I was in high school, that I would never lose the Hope. That all I would have to do to keep a 3.0 GPA is go to class. No one ever told me that I had to study.

Once I was at The State University of West Georgia, I lost Hope in just two semesters.
