"The recreation of the Omega Speedmaster watch, first manufactured in 1959 is definitely a possible task in today's society." Discuss.
The first Omega Speedmaster wristwatch was created in 1957 in Biene, Switzerland. From its beginnings the watch was very successful and has played a large role in many important events in the history of man. The re development of the Omega Speedmaster is certainly possible today on a technical level. Its design and method of manufacture can be easily duplicated in today's modern industrial world. One thing, however, that has changed since then is our society. When the Omega Speedmaster was first created it was intended to cater for a certain audience who in today's culture may not be the same. In the same respect, events such as the moon landing which brought about great fame for the Speedmaster would have to reoccur in order for the watch to reach the international recognition that it did.
If we were determining whether the Omega Speedmaster could be replicated on a technological level, it would be considered a very realistic task. The technological advances since 1959, when the Speedmaster first went into manufacture, have been significant in all areas concerned. Shortly after the creation of the Speedmaster (1957) there were slight changes in 1959. As one can see in only a couple of years, technology had improved. Since that time "Omega has produced more that sixty different models of the Speedmaster, utilising a variety of different movements." One slight adjustment to be noted is the addition of "Professional' to the name, after the watch impressively passed NASA testing. Within these ranges of models, original Speedmaster watches have been created as special collector items, commemorating mans first moon landings.
