"Natural Environments Must Be Protected". To What Extent Do You Agree Or Disagree With This Statement?
I agree to a large extent. It is also important for us to protect the natural environment for sustainable development. The environment provides us with the natural resources that we need. If we do not protect it now, the natural resources will disappear in the near future. We need to protect the natural environments now so that it will still be clean, green and safe for the future generations. The environment such as nature sites must be protected as they sustain a wide variety of wildlife and also serves as a ground for recreation, education and scientific research. If we do not protect natural environments and allow activities that destroy them such as deforestation, other organisms on the Earth will be affected as well. For instance, if there is deforestation, some animals will loss their habitat and become extinct.
The natural environments must be protected as they play a large role in our lives and we will be affected if they are destroyed. Pollution will lead to poor health. The Mangroves swamps are breeding grounds and habitats to a vast variety of plants and animals, and they act as a buffer zone protecting against marine erosion and strong winds such as cyclone. In a way, they also protect human lives and property. Economically, mangroves also provide raw materials like bakau wood. If this natural environment is destroyed, industries depending on such materials will be affected greatly. If we do not protect the soil, they may become infertile one day. This means that we cannot grow any more crops on that piece of land.
However, due to rapid population growth and urbanization, more land is needed. Hence, we cannot afford to conserve and protect forests which take up a lot of spaces. For example in Singapore, where land is scarce, it is inevitable that we need to "sacrifice" the environment. It is not very possible to generate economic growth and also protect the environment at the same time. Countries are constantly developing, and this...
