"Friends" Sitcom Essay
Every Thursday night, many people all over the country make sure they have access to a television set. I find myself doing this very same thing. We even find ourselves arranging our schedules so that we have nothing else to do at 7:00 p.m. every Thursday night except watch this show. We do this because we are helplessly addicted to a show called Friends. This show is about five, middle class friends, who live in New York City and share everything from romance, laughter, arguments, and most of all friendship.
Ever since last season's finale, NBC has kept viewers impatiently waiting to see if Rachel is really pregnant or not. This past Thursday night, thousands of people sat around their television sets to find out the truth. It turned out that Rachel was really pregnant but now the show makes everyone wait another week to find out who the father really is. I like Friends because it keeps you waiting a whole week to see what is going to happen next. I hate shows where I can predict the outcome every week. It takes the fun out of waiting a whole seven days for another episode or even arguing with your best friends about what is going to happen next week.
The show also has a variety of characters, who have many different personalities. Most viewers can relate themselves to at least one character, which is one way the media catches the viewer's attention. I can relate to Phoebe. Even though she may not understand everything or even if she's just had one to many "blonde" moments, she always makes the best of everything and keeps on smiling. It makes me feel good to know that there are other people in this world who get things confused as often as I do. She also ends up making everyone laugh, even in the toughest situations. I can also relate to this because in the end, I'm usually the one trying to pass a joke or crack a smile out of one of my friends. Many of my friends also refer themselves to one of the...
