"American Dream"

"The American Dream"
There are many different ideas of what the "American Dream" is. Some people think that the "American Dream" is anything from being famous to having enough money to buy a huge house. Other people think that the "American Dream" is to just be able to look back on your life and say you enjoyed it. In my opinion the "American Dream" is to have a successful job, a healthy family, and a place to live.
The Depression may have caused many people not to fulfill their "American Dream", but it changed the "American Dream" in many ways. The Depression caused many people to think that their lives would never amount to anything. This caused a change in the opinion, once the Depression was over, of what the "American Dream" was. People who once were trying to be rich and famous were now just trying to survive. People who grew up during the Depression raised their families with fear of failure. Their goal was to have a good paying job, a family that was healthy, and a place they could call home.
While many people may think that the Depression killed many people's chances of fulfilling the "American Dream" I think that the Depression played an important role in making the "American Dream" more realistic. Because of this I think that the Depression and the time following the Depression came closest to making the "American Dream" come true. Today there are still many opinions of what the "American Dream" is. There are still people whose dreams for life is to be famous, but there are many more people who are just trying to survive.
