Topic: "War with Iraq: Yes or No?"
A war with Iraq might be a well-supported idea by many or most Americans as of right now. However, do most if any know why they are even supporting such a course of military action?
If anyone has been watching and researching the latest news on this subject, then they will know that there are those in "high" places that are now joining the opposition for a war with Iraq; those being Dick Armey, the House Majority Leader, Chuck Hagel, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Brent Scowcroft, a retired statesman of Republican foreign policy, who happened to advise not only Richard Nixon and General Ford, but George W. Bush Sr. as well. Why do all of these people seem to be backing down and not George Bush himself? Maybe it's just that he may in fact go through with this war just so that he doesn't ruin his reputation after all the boasting he's been doing thus far.
There aren't sufficient grounds for a war with Iraq. Our President believes one of the reasons for waging a war against Iraq is the Iraqi development of weapons of mass destruction. There are stories of the supposed threat our country faces due to these weapons. The reason why Iraq will not allow for inspection is because they have tried to get sanctions lifted for agreeing to such inspections; meanwhile the U.S. has refused. Madeline Albright stated, "We do not agree with the nations who argue that if Iraq complies with its obligations concerning mass destruction, sanctions should be lifted." Clinton also added "Sanctions will be there until the end of time, or as long as he [Saddam] lasts."(8 Washington Lies About Iraq) The U.S. cannot even legally persist that Iraq alone get rid of their supposed ‘weapons of mass destruction."
