The 60's
The 60's were a time of many events and changes. One such incident was the shooting of John F. Kennedy. I interviewed my grandmother on this such subject and she remembered exactly what happened. She said at the time when the news broke out that the President of the United States had been shot she was at home. She said that this struck her as very odd and she could not believe what had happened. She said when this such incident took place it left her in shock and worried about the safety of herself and her family. The shooting of President Kennedy left the nation worrying what could happen next and it put a sad and dreary feeling over all.
Another incident in the 60's was the Democratic National Convention. This took place in downtown Chicago, Illinois. The information my grandmother gave me was very brief. The only information she had for me was that there was a huge riot that took place. Some other events that took place was the U-2 spy plane was shot down by Russia, French test the first atomic device, Birth control pills went on sale in the United States, and the first artificial kidney was introduced.
All of these events that took place were news to me except for the shooting of President Kennedy. I could not believe the impact that all of these events could have left on people who went through them. For some of these events were horrific and unimaginable. These events were very important in those days and will live on forever in history. One such tragedy that we have all been through is the September 11th attacks on New York. Those events will also be remembered not only in our minds but in the minds of future people in the world.
