Korean Conflict
The USSR inserted a government made of communists in North Korea and after that they tried to take over South Korea and be in control of all Korea.. Soon North Korea was hit under an attack, in return they went below the 38th parallel. This invasion, was a beginning of a civil war. It also started a cold war between large nations that opened up hostilities.
Decision for War
The western half of the world was surprised by what North Korea did. There was information received about a possible invasion through high intelligence. North Koreans, seem to have taken encouragement from the U.S. policy which left Korea outside the U.S. "defense line" in Asia and from relatively public discussions of the economies placed on U.S.
The Red Scare: Alger Hiss
Whittacker Chambers Was in a court appearance that accused Alger Hiss of spying for the Soviet. In a federal jury case Hiss denied all the accusations that Chambers spoke of. Hiss was charged with perjury. He had two trials, in the first, the jury was baffled, and in the second the jury sentenced Hiss to five years in a federal prison. After he was released from prison in 54, he tried to get a better reputation for the rest of his life. He later tried to sue the U.S. for defending the freedom of information act.
NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was established in Washingtonon 4th April, 1949. This treaty was signed by Ministers of Belgium, Britain,Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and the United States, it provided for mutual assistance should any one member of the alliance be attacked .Greece and Turkey also joined but they waited until 1952 and 1955 for Germany.
