I am working with Cheverolet Systems (India) as an Internet Applications Administrator. The Information support group at Cheverolet Systems comprises of a dedicated Internet Applications team that is committed to providing a secure Internet Infrastructure for Cheverolet's customers, employees and partners. I am heading the Indian operations for the Global Internet Applications group. My responsibilities involve 1) acting as a transition manager between the India Applications team and the Internet Applications team based in Cheverolet's other global development centers, and 2) building, developing and managing the India team.
The Cheverolet India office is a relatively new set up. The management has plans of migrating more and more development and administrative work to India from their headquarters based in San Jose. The Internet Applications group is one such unit which is in the process of being shifted to India. I was hired as the first person in the Applications team at India with the objective that one day this team will take over all the responsibilities and administrative work from its US counterpart. I was entrusted with the responsibility of understanding the whole application framework (both technical and functional), build an application team under me, and pass on the understanding to this team.
I have seven people in my team and this number is expected to grow up to 10 very soon. The budget for my team is about half a million dollars. My job has been a very challenging one right from the beginning. Firstly, I had to not only get accustomed to the new environment but also develop expertise in new technologies. On top of that, I was expected to be productive from the very first day. Secondly, I had to hold meetings and communicate with the Applications team worldwide on a day-to-day basis.
